Trusted Sites

Quick Overview

zGuardian includes a built-in antivirus module to protect connected client devices from known threats. The Trusted Sites (whitelist) feature allows you to safelist specific URLs or domains, skipping antivirus scanning for those destinations. This is helpful for reducing false positives or performance overhead when accessing known safe sites.

How To Use

  1. In the zGuardian UI, go to Security > Antivirus.
  2. In the left pane, click on Anti-virus to access URL/Domain configuration.
  3. Click Add Trusted URL/Domain.
  4. Enter one or more URLs or domains you want to whitelist.
  5. Optionally include a description for internal reference.
  6. Click Save to apply the trusted site entry.
  7. To remove a site from the list, select it and click Delete.

Notes:

  • URLs/domains in the whitelist will bypass virus scanning.
  • You can whitelist multiple sites in a single entry or add them individually.
  • Use this feature cautiously—trusted sites are not scanned for threats.

Concepts and Use Cases

What It Does

Trusted Sites provide a bypass mechanism for antivirus scanning on specific URLs or domains you consider safe. This reduces resource usage and prevents false positives when antivirus flags benign sites.

Use Cases

  • Internal applications known to trigger false positives
  • Vendor update servers (e.g., *.microsoft.com, *.ubuntu.com)
  • Content delivery networks or trusted internal tools

Caution:

Excessive whitelisting may weaken your antivirus protection. Only trust sites you control or can confidently verify as secure.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q: Why is my trusted URL still being scanned?

A: Confirm the domain matches exactly. Wildcards (*.example.com) must be properly formatted. Also verify the policy scope is correct.

Q: Can I whitelist IP addresses instead of domain names?

A: No. The trusted site feature only applies to URLs and domain names.

Q: What’s the difference between this and the Web Filtering whitelist?

A: Trusted Sites bypass antivirus scanning, while Web Filtering controls access permissions (block/allow) at the browsing level.
