Overview of SnapOS Linux Thin Client (zTC)

Summary

The SnapOS Linux Thin Client (zTC) provides a lightweight, secure endpoint for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments—Microsoft, Citrix, VMware, and Amazon WorkSpaces. It disables local storage and software installation, redirecting all sessions, USB, audio, and peripherals to a remote host.

Prerequisites

  • zTC hardware or x86 PC with UEFI support
  • SnapOS 1.3 installed
  • Administrator access to zMAN or SCM for centralized management (optional)

Procedure

  1. Connect zTC to network and power on.
  2. Complete first-boot wizard (set locale, time, network).
  3. (Optional) Register device with zMAN:
    • Start → Applications → Management Server Configurator
    • Choose Auto or Manual, enter URL/Provision key → Apply → Reboot

Advanced Configuration

  • Unattended Firmware Updates via FTP/HTTPS: use SnapOS Update → enter URL, credentials → Install.
  • Custom NTP Servers: Settings → Date & Time → add NTP entries.

Related Features

  • zMAN Device Discovery & Provisioning
  • zDiag Remote Debugging
  • Certificate Installer (for secure session certs)

Troubleshooting

  • Device not booting: force power cycle; if recovered, update firmware via USB.
  • zMAN registration failure: verify network/DNS and provision key.
