zWAN edge devices categorize Internet traffic into predefined categories, including topics like Gaming, Social, Arts, Chat, Sports, and many more. These categories enable enhanced functionalities for firewall rules and packet steering to optimize network management and security.

Use Cases

1. Firewall Management

Global Blocking

• Categories can be globally blocked by adding them to the Blocked Category list. By default, the Dating, Gaming, Adult, and Social categories are blocked.
• Users can switch to Custom Mode to customize the blocked category list according to specific needs.

Selective Blocking/Allowing in Firewall Rules

• Categories can be individually allowed or blocked within specific firewall rules, overriding global category settings. This flexibility allows for refined control over content and network access.

2. Network Balancer (Net Balancer) or QoS

• Categories can be configured for packet steering or Quality of Service (QoS) management. By steering traffic related to specific categories through designated WAN interfaces, users can balance network load and prioritize traffic effectively.
