Configuring Microsoft Remote Desktop on zTC
Summary
This article walks you through creating, editing, and using Microsoft RDP connection profiles on your zTC, including USB and audio redirection.
Prerequisites
- zTC with SnapOS ≥1.3
- Valid RDP server address and credentials
- (Optional) USB devices to redirect (mass storage, HID, audio peripherals)
Procedure
- Add New Profile
- Start → Applications → Microsoft Remote Desktop
- Select “Add RDP” → enter server, username, domain → Save & Connect
- Edit Existing Profile
- Open Microsoft Remote Desktop app → right-click desired profile → Edit
- USB Redirection
- In profile Edit → Advanced tab → USB device redirection box → specify
id:<VID>:<PID>
(e.g.,046d:0825
) → Save
- In profile Edit → Advanced tab → USB device redirection box → specify
- Audio Redirection
- Edit profile → Advanced tab → Audio output mode → select Local or Remote → Save
Example
To share a USB thumb drive at login:
• Connect drive → Edit profile → Basic tab → tick “Share folder” and choose drive letter → Save & Connect
Advanced Configuration
- Web-based RDP (RD Web Client):
- Launch Chromium → browse to your RD Web URL → authenticate → launch session
- Profile Deployment via zMAN:
- Push RDP
.rdp
files to device; shortcuts auto-appear on desktop.
