USB Device Redirection on zTC

USB Device Redirection on zTC

Summary

Learn how to redirect local USB mass-storage and HID-class devices (scanners, signature pads, cameras) into your remote VDI sessions.

Prerequisites

  • SnapOS ≥1.3
  • USB devices connected physically before session launch for “Share at startup” mode
  • Administrative rights for advanced redirection

Procedure

  1. Mass-Storage Redirection
    • Connect USB drive → launch RDP/Citrix/VMware client → Basic tab → tick “Share folder” → select drive
  2. Non-Storage Device Redirection
    • Connect device → profile Edit → Advanced tab → enter id:<VID>:<PID> → Save & Connect
  3. Automatic vs. On-Insert Modes (VMware)
    • In VMware Horizon: title-bar “Connect USB Device” → choose “Automatically connect at startup” or “when inserted”

Example

Redirect a USB webcam in Citrix:
1. Connect webcam → 2. Launch Citrix Workspace → device auto-redirect

Advanced Configuration

  • Class-based Filtering: Accessories → USB Configuration → block/allow by Device Class or individual VID:PID.
  • Group Policies via zMAN: centrally enforce allowed-device lists.

Related Features

  • USB Devices List (view connected hardware)
  • Log Configurator (track redirection events)

Troubleshooting

  • Device briefly appears then disconnects: check SnapOS log (/var/log/syslog) for class-security denials.
  • HID devices not redirected: ensure they’re not in the “restricted” Content Security class.

FAQs

How many USB devices can I redirect?
Up to the VDI client’s limit; zTC itself supports up to 127.
Is keyboard/mouse always redirected?
Yes—HID-class devices auto-redirect by default.
