Quick Overview
The Action List page in zWAN displays all actions created from metadata templates. An Action is a populated instance of a Template, configured with specific values to perform a defined task. These actions are the building blocks of policies, allowing administrators to apply repeatable, automated configurations to Edge Controllers. Users can search, create, edit, and delete actions as needed.
How to Use This Feature in the UI
- Navigate to the Action List section in the zWAN Director UI.
- Review the list of actions with columns for:
- Action Name
- Description
- Associated Template
- To Search for an Action:
- Use the Search bar at the top-left to search by name, description, or template.
- To Create a New Action:
- Click Create Action.
- Enter a Name and optional Description.
- Select a Template from the list of imported templates.
- Fill out the fields dynamically generated based on the selected template.
- Click Save to add the action to the Action List.
- To Edit an Existing Action:
- Hover over the action entry until the Edit icon appears in the top-right corner of the row.
- Click the icon to open the Edit Action dialog.
- Modify the action name, description, or field values based on the selected template.
- Click Save to apply updates.
- To Delete an Action:
- Hover over the action entry until the Delete icon appears.
- Click the icon to open a confirmation prompt.
- Click Yes to permanently remove the action, or Cancel to abort.
Concepts & Use Cases
- Template-Based Automation: Actions are instantiated from templates, enabling scalable and reusable configuration routines.
- Policy Composition: One or more actions can be grouped into a policy, allowing for bulk application of settings across Edge devices.
- Granular Control: Each action can be tailored to specific deployment needs using metadata fields unique to its template.
- Separation of Concerns: Templates define structure, while actions define usage—making the system modular and maintainable.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
- Why can’t I see a template when creating an action?
Ensure that templates have been imported via the Templates page. Only valid templates will be available for selection. - What happens if a template is deleted?
Actions referencing a deleted template may become invalid or read-only. Re-import the template to regain full editing capability. - Can I clone an action?
Cloning is not currently supported. However, you can manually recreate an action using the same template and values. - Can actions be assigned directly to Edge Controllers?
No. Actions are used within policies, which are then assigned to Edge Controllers.
