zPortal zClient Installation

The AmZetta zPortal zClient allows users to access all resources on the zPortal Controller from virtually any device. The steps below will ensure that the client is configured properly.

zPortal zClient Installation

  1. Navigate to https://amzetta.wpengine.com/zclient/ and scroll to the bottom to download the proper version of the zClient for your desktop OS.

Windows zPortal zClient

  1. Double-click the downloaded .exe to initiate the installer. Click Next.
  2. Read over the EULA and click I Agree to continue.
  3. Choose either Desktop Client or Thin Client mode and click Next.
    1. Desktop Client mode will allow you to keep the functionality of your device and simply install the zPortal zClient as another application. A user will still be allowed to access all normal desktop functions such as other applications installed on the device, browse the internet, etc.
    2. Thin Client mode will configure the device to act as a thin client. This means normal desktop functions will be disabled and whenever a user powers on the device, they will be immediately prompted to login to the zPortal Controller in order to utilize the desktop.
  4. If USB redirection is required, be sure to check the box for Built-in USB Redirector. Click Install.
  5. Installation will commence.
  6. Once installed, you will be prompted to reboot the system before being able to use the client.

Linux zPortal zClient

  1. Open a terminal and navigate to the directory where the client installer was downloaded.
  2. Ensure that a tool such as p7zip is installed in order to extract the installer. You will also need to be sure freerdp is installed in order to connect to sessions. If p7zip (or another tool) and/or freerdp is not installed, you may install it with the following command
    sudo apt install -y p7zip-full freerdp-x11
  3. Extract the installer with the following command
    7z x Amzetta-zPortal-Linux.7z
  4. A new directory named edcinstaller will be created which you will need to enter with the following command
    cd edcinstaller
  5. Run the installer script with the following command
    sudo ./install_edcclient.sh
  6. You will get a pop-up that asks about internet connectivity, which is required for installing all prerequisite libraries. Make sure you have internet connectivity and then select the radio button for Internet is enabled and click OK.
  7. Installation will initiate and after a while you will receive another pop up asking which mode you would like to install. Make a decision based on the types below and click OK.
    1. Desktop Client mode will allow you to keep the functionality of your device and simply install the zPortal zClient as another application. A user will still be allowed to access all normal desktop functions such as other applications installed on the device, browse the internet, etc.
    2. Thin Client mode will configure the device to act as a thin client. This means normal desktop functions will be disabled and whenever a user powers on the device, they will be immediately prompted to login to the zPortal Controller in order to utilize the desktop.
  8. Desktop will automatically reboot when installation is complete.
