URL Filter

Quick Overview

URL/Domain Filtering enables zGuardian to control access to websites by blocking or allowing domains based on predefined categories or manually defined custom rules. It supports both broad content policy enforcement and granular site control.

How to Use This Feature in the UI

  1. Navigate to Security > URL/Domain Filter in the zGuardian interface.
  2. Choose between the two filter types:
    • Category-Based Filtering: Contains ~40 predefined categories covering ~7 million domains. Use checkboxes to block or allow categories (e.g., Adult Content, Gambling, Social Media).
    • Custom URL/Domain Filtering: Manually specify individual URLs, domains, or subdomains to block.
  3. Apply changes by clicking Save or Apply Configuration.

Concepts & Use Cases

  • Use category-based filtering to quickly apply company-wide content policies (e.g., block streaming or adult content).
  • Use custom filtering to enforce fine-grained controls (e.g., block access to a known malicious site or restrict use of a specific app domain).
  • Ideal for schools, enterprises, and compliance-sensitive environments.

Note: This filter applies to only if SSL Inspection is enabled.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Q: Why are some blocked sites still accessible?
A: Ensure SSL Inspection is enabled, and confirm the domain is listed under a blocked category or custom rule.
  • Q: Can I whitelist a site within a blocked category?
A: Yes. Add the site to a Trusted Sites list to bypass filtering.
  • Q: What happens to subdomains?
A: Subdomains must be explicitly defined in Custom Filtering unless covered by the category list.
