Auto Policy

Quick Overview

The Auto Policy page in zWAN tracks policies that are automatically applied to Edge Controllers during the onboarding process. These policies are pre-configured and enforced as part of the initial provisioning workflow, ensuring that newly onboarded devices receive required baseline configurations without manual intervention.

How to Use This Feature in the UI

  1. Navigate to the Auto Policy section in the zWAN Director UI.
  2. The table lists all Edge Controllers with applied auto policies and includes:
    • Edge Controller Name
    • Number of Policies Applied
    • Status (In Progress, Completed)
    • Result (Success/Failed)
    • Start Time and End Time of the policy application
  3. To View Policy Details:
    • Hover over a policy row until the Details icon appears.
    • Click the icon to open a breakdown showing:
      • Policy Name
      • Number of Actions
      • Pass/Fail status for each action
      • Overall execution result
  4. To Download Logs:
    • Hover over a row and click the Download Log icon in the top-right corner.
    • The system will export the policy execution log for offline review or audit purposes.

Concepts & Use Cases

  • Zero-Touch Provisioning: Automatically apply predefined configurations during the onboarding process without manual input.
  • Policy Baselines: Ensure that all Edge Controllers receive essential networking, security, or monitoring configurations by default.
  • Compliance Assurance: Reduce the risk of human error and misconfiguration by enforcing consistent policy application on first contact.
  • Audit-Ready Operations: Maintain a complete record of what configurations were applied at the point of onboarding.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

  • Why did a policy fail during onboarding?
Click the Details icon to review which specific actions failed. Check for invalid template values or device connectivity issues.
  • Can I re-run an auto policy?
Not directly. To reapply the configuration, convert the policy to an On Demand Policy and reassign it.
  • Why are logs not available?
If the job failed before execution began, logs may not be generated. Retry the onboarding or review the error state in the Event Logs.
  • Can I edit an auto policy after onboarding?
No. Auto policies are static during onboarding. Post-onboarding changes must be applied through On Demand Policies or manual updates.
