Quick Overview
The Template page in zWAN provides a centralized location for managing metadata templates. This page allows users to import, view, export, and delete configuration templates, making it easier to manage consistent device configurations across models and versions. Each template entry displays the UUID, model number, name, version, and supports actions like description view, export, and deletion.
How to Use This Feature in the UI
- Navigate to the Templates section in the zWAN Director UI.
- Review the displayed list of templates, which includes:
- UUID
- Model Number
- Template Name
- Version

- Select up to 20 valid template files to upload.
- To replace an existing template, check the Replace checkbox.
- If a file is invalid or mismatched, an error message will be displayed.
- To View Description:
- Hover over a template row until the Info icon appears in the top-right corner.
- Click the icon to view the full template description.
- To Export a Template:

Concepts & Use Cases
- Template Portability: Share configuration templates across tenants or environments by exporting and re-importing them.
- Version Management: Maintain multiple versions of templates and replace outdated ones with updated configurations.
- Bulk Deployment: Use templates to quickly apply standardized settings across multiple Edge devices of the same model.
- Change Control: Easily roll back or reapply saved configurations during upgrades or troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
- Why do I see an error when importing a template?
Ensure the file is in the correct format and corresponds to a supported device model. Recheck the template version and structure. - What happens if I delete a template that is in use?
The template is removed from the Director UI, but any devices previously configured with it will retain their settings until changed. To re-manage the template, you must re-import it. - Can I edit a template directly in the UI?
No, templates must be edited offline and re-imported. The UI only allows viewing, importing, exporting, and deleting templates. - Can templates be shared between tenants?
Yes. Use the Export function to download a template, then import it into a different tenant environment.
