Quick Overview
The Users page in zWAN provides administrators with a centralized interface to manage user accounts, assign roles, associate Edge controllers, and control resource permissions. It supports creating, editing, and deleting user records with flexible access control based on organizational roles and infrastructure assignments.
How to Use This Feature in the UI
- Navigate to the Users section in the zWAN Director interface.
- The page displays a table listing all configured users along with their assigned roles and permissions.
- To Add a User:
- Click Add.
- Enter user details: First Name, Last Name, Email, and Password.
- Select a Role (e.g., Admin, Operator, Viewer).
- Assign one or more Edge Controllers the user should have access to.
- Optionally assign Resource Permissions. If none are selected, default permissions for the selected role will apply.
- Click Save.
- To Edit a User:
- Select an existing user from the table and click Edit.
- Update fields such as First Name, Last Name, Role, or Edge Controller assignments.
- Click Update to save changes.
- To Delete a User:
- Select the user to remove and click Delete.
- Confirm the action when prompted.
Concepts & Use Cases
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Assign different permission levels based on predefined roles to enforce least privilege access.
- Scoped Resource Access: Grant users access only to specific Edge controllers, limiting exposure across distributed environments.
- Operational Delegation: Use user roles and resource assignments to delegate day-to-day operations to site admins or team leads without full system access.
- Audit & Traceability: Associate user activity with their login identity for security audits and accountability.
Troubleshooting & FAQs
- Why can’t I see a user I just added?
Ensure you have the correct permissions to view all users. Try refreshing the UI or verifying the user was added successfully. - Can I reassign a user to a different Edge controller?
Yes. Use the Edit function to update controller assignments without affecting other user settings. - What happens if I don’t assign any resources?
Default access permissions based on the user’s role will be applied across the entire system unless otherwise restricted. - Can I temporarily disable a user instead of deleting them?
Currently, disabling users may not be supported in the UI. To restrict access, you must delete the account or adjust role/resource permissions.
